Pad-mounted transformers (ANSI / IEEE)

For underground distribution in the Americas, the Middle East and other 60 Hz and ANSI-style markets, MARS manufactures dead-front pad-mounted transformers to IEEE C57.12.34 (three-phase) and C57.12.38 (single-phase): 12.47, 13.2, 13.8, 24.9 and 34.5 kV primaries, 120/240, 208Y/120, 480Y/277 or 400/230 V secondaries, radial or loop feed with 200 A loadbreak bushings, bayonet fusing and tamper-resistant enclosures to ANSI C57.12.28.

Features

  • Single-phase 37.5–167 kVA; three-phase 75–2,500 kVA; 95–150 kV BIL.
  • Copper or aluminium windings, amorphous-core option for low no-load loss; mineral or FR3 natural-ester fluid.
  • Munsell 7GY 3.29/1.5 green finish, stainless cabinet option for coastal sites; pentahead bolt, padlock hasp.
  • Accessories: drain valve with sampler, pressure relief, liquid-level and temperature gauges, parking stands, elbow arresters.

FAQ: Pad-Mounted Transformers

Loop feed or radial feed?

Loop feed has six HV bushings so the primary cable can pass through to the next transformer and be sectionalised; radial feed has three and terminates the cable. Utilities use loop feed for underground residential networks; radial feed suits a single commercial customer.

Can pad-mounted transformers be supplied for 50 Hz networks?

Yes. The ANSI-style enclosure and dead-front design can be built for 11, 22 or 33 kV, 50 Hz systems with 400/230 V secondaries — popular in the Gulf, Africa and Southeast Asia where underground networks follow North American practice.

What is the difference between live-front and dead-front?

Dead-front units have insulated, separable elbow connectors so no energised metal is exposed when the cabinet is opened; live-front units use bare porcelain bushings. Dead-front is now standard for safety.

Is UL listing available?

MARS pad-mounted designs follow IEEE C57.12 and ANSI C57.12.28 and are CE certified; third-party UL/CSA evaluation can be arranged for specific projects on request.
