Containerised battery energy storage systems

MARS containerised BESS combine LFP battery racks, battery management, power conversion (PCS), energy management (EMS), thermal management and fire suppression in 10 ft, 20 ft or 40 ft ISO containers, with a matching MV step-up transformer or prefabricated substation from our own factory. Systems from 500 kWh to 10 MWh serve peak shaving, solar and wind firming, frequency response, microgrids and back-up power.

System design

  • Cells: 280 Ah / 314 Ah prismatic LFP, 6,000+ cycles at 80 % depth of discharge, IEC 62619 and UN38.3.
  • Power: 0.25 C to 1 C continuous; PCS 250 kW to 3.45 MW per container, grid-forming or grid-following, IEC 61000 / IEEE 1547 compliant.
  • Control: three-level BMS, EMS with Modbus TCP / IEC 61850 / IEC 104 interfaces, remote monitoring.
  • Safety: aerosol or Novec 1230 suppression, gas detection, explosion venting, NFPA 855 layout guidance.

FAQ: Energy Storage Systems

What is the difference between kW and kWh in a BESS?

kWh is energy — how much the container stores; kW is power — how fast it can charge or discharge. A 2 MWh / 1 MW system delivers 1 MW for two hours (0.5 C). Peak shaving and solar shifting usually need 2–4 hour systems; frequency response needs higher power and less energy.

Which grid codes can your PCS meet?

Inverters are supplied with certification to IEEE 1547 / UL 1741 SA for the Americas, EN 50549 / VDE-AR-N 4110 for Europe and IEC 62477 / IEC 61000 generally. Tell us the network operator and we will match the required profile.

Can MARS supply the step-up transformer and switchgear with the BESS?

Yes — that is our advantage. The MV step-up transformer, ring main unit or containerised substation are built in the same factory and tested with the BESS as one system, with one point of responsibility.

What warranty applies?

Typically 10 years or a guaranteed cycle count on the battery system with a capacity-retention curve, and 5 years on the PCS. Extended warranties and performance guarantees can be quoted with a maintenance plan.
